Agastache is an interesting Mediterranean perennial perhaps best treated as an annual in hard frost areas. The mint like foliage has a distinctive liquorice or peppermint smell, with attractive spikes of blue, grows to about 60cm.

Ageratum Red Flint is a taller border Ageratum producing branching plants 60 cm to 70 cm tall. They freely produce dense heads of burgundy red blooms and provide useful cut flowers on long stems.

Alyogyne huegelii  often called the ‘Blue Hibiscus’ (it’s a close relative to the hibiscus) heralds from dry southern regions of Australia. Excellent for summer bedding in a south facing English border. It is really a perennial shrub to 10ft or more and given the right conditions could be over wintered indoors, but try growing it as an annual. The 12cm flowers are a lovely lilac blue.

Alyssum Easter Bonnet is a heavy blooming compact alyssum variety which will flower in a range of striking colours including deep pink, rose, white and violet. The plants reach a height of 10cm and they are a great plant for blanket or ground cover with a wonderful delicate fragrance.

Amaranth Chinese Giant Orange is an 6ft to 8ft Amaranth with large heads of golden orange. The young leaves are green with orange ribs and deliciously edible as baby salad leaves. The seeds are lightly coloured also edible and excellent ground into a flour or cooked like oatmeal.  The plant prefers full sun and normal garden soil.  Sow the seed directly in the spring garden and thin to about 1 foot apart or grow in small pots before planting out after frosts have finished.  Part of our "Triffid" pack

Amaranthus caudatus Green  is the original green form of ‘love lies bleeding’ Excellent in a tropical bedding theme where it emulates the tropical plant Acalypha hispida. The green and red forms are much used in flower arrangements with tassels to 24” long.

Amaranthus cruentus Oeschburg is another good form of Amaranthus with deep purple leaves and branching flowers.

Amaranthus Early Splendour  is a fabulous new early colour producing variety, with bright scarlet bracts creating a stunning display. Large plants to 3ft given a hot sunny position. The July 2006 heat wave produced a fabulous display.

An exciting new variety of Amaranthus with imposing spikes of warm, orange to 5ft. An excellent cut flower, easy and quick to grow.

Amaranthus Illumination will challenge any tropical flower for brilliant colour. Only growing to 2ft with purple bronze foliage topped by scarlet and yellow flower bracts like a poinsettia. Excellent as a pot grown patio annual or in groups in a warm border. Can grow taller in warmer climates!

Amaranthus Red Cathedral Superior  is a tall variety with upright branching habit and bright blood red flowers

Amaranthus Tricolor Yellow  is another striking variety, with bright yellow bracts creating a stunning display. Large plants to 3ft given a hot sunny position.

Amaranthus Velvet Curtain is a fabulous foliage and flower plant for creating a quick tropical foliage and flower effect. This form grows to 4ft to 6ft tall with crimson red 12" flower spikes and large purple leaves. In a group planting quite stunning.

Anchusa Blue Angel  is a hardy biennial or short lived perennial from South Africa, best grown as an annual.  Blue Angel has great vivid ultra-marine blue flowers on plants with a bushy habit 12" by 12" making this variety ideal for garden borders and mass plantings. Early blooming and extremely long blooming time for any annual. Also ideal for patio pots and containers and attractive to butterflies. Prefers full sun or partial shade.

Angelonia Serena is the first variety of Angelonia, a shrub native of South America, ever to be available from seed for the home gardener. It is a bit shorter than other Angelonias, with 10" to 12" stems on well-branched plants 12" to 14" wide. Treat like a Salvia in a hot, dry position in your garden, however it also fares well in moist soils and is ideal for containers. It doesn't need to be deadheaded as fresh flowering stems simply arise to replace the old ones!

Angelonia although a tender perennial is best grown as an annual in the UK and the Serena range comes in four colours, lavender pink, purple, and white. Blooms 13 to 14 weeks from sowing.

An interesting early and dwarf (20cm) flowering mixture of apricot, wine and lavender in a lovely bicolour display.

This series is a real performer in the landscape. The sturdy stems hold the flowers well and its very uniform in habit and timing. 50-60cm.

The bushy plants grow to about 2ft-3ft tall with pretty pink flowers borne in terminal clusters that are 2”-4” across and also loved by butterflies. It blooms continuously from spring until autumn. They like full sun to partial shade and tolerate both dry and wet conditions.

A slender, deciduous shrub, usually treated as an annual as it is quick and easy to grow. Best pinched out at the 5th leaf stage to encourage branching, the stems then produce insignificant flowers that magically transform into unusual translucent, soft, spiny balls. An interesting talking point and often used for cut flower arrangements.

Asclepias Silky Gold produces many golden yellow, flat-topped flower clusters in early June. Flowering goes on for many weeks. Green pods full of seeds with silky white hairs follow the flowers. An excellent plant if you want to attract a variety of butterflies in to your garden.

Aster Giants of California  are tall plants to 30” with large shaggy Ostrich type flowers on long stems. A good colour range and perfect for cut flowers.
