A deciduous shrub from Eastern China with glossy mid-green leaves, and camellia-like flowers up to 4" diameter. It will tolerate down to about -15C but prefers a sheltered site from cold winds and in partial shade rather than full all day sun. Large glossy green leaves and it should produce flowers after 3 or 4 years. Slow to germinate and some scarification necessary as encouragement.
