From the higher mountain regions of Bolivia, the Silver torch or Wooly cactus grows up to 3 metres in the wild. Covered in white spines, the new growth is particularly attractive especially in the early morning / late evening light. Enjoys being outside in the summer months in a sunny well drained spot - larger specimens can easily grow up to 8cm in a summer. It Is surprisingly cold tolerant and can probably take a light frost but must be kept dry during the winter months. Safer to bring into a frost free environment for the winter – but protect yourself before digging up!
