Apart from the Trachycarpus family, Butia capitata from Uruguay is one of the best hardy palm alternatives to grow in the UK, frost hardy to about -10°C when larger and also tolerating wet winters and cool summers. It is not a fan but a feather palm, looking more like the traditional arching leaved date palm with grey/blue green leaves.
