From China, Trachycarpus fortunei is one of the most popular hardy palms in the UK that we have been growing for over 20 years. This is a must for any Palm devotee, it has a very hairy trunk with huge fan shaped leaves. Trachycarpus can be slow to germinate, but the trick is that they need cooler temperatures than most palms - around 20°C to 23°C, and are best without bottom heat. In some parts of the country , mature specimens are self seeding now with clusters of mini palms germinating around the base of their parents.
